Brooks Robinson, legendary O's third baseman, dies at 86

Brooks Robinson, one of the greatest third basemen in baseball history, died on August 13, 2023 at the age of 86.

Early life and career

Robinson was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1937. He signed with the Orioles in 1955 and made his major league debut in 1957.

Defensive prowess

Robinson quickly established himself as one of the best defensive players in the game, winning his first Gold Glove Award in 1959. He would go on to win 15 more Gold Gloves, a record for third basemen.

Offensive contributions

Robinson was also a solid hitter, batting .267 with 284 home runs and 1357 RBIs in his career. He was an All-Star 18 times and helped the Orioles win World Series titles in 1966 and 1970.

World Series MVP

Robinson was named World Series MVP in 1970 after hitting .391 with two home runs and four RBIs in the Orioles' victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Legacy

Robinson is widely considered to be one of the greatest third basemen in baseball history. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
